Wreck & Night Diving Excursion
with Dressel Divers
Change the scenery with our wreck & night diving excursion! Wreck enthusiasts will love this excursion! Join us for three memorable dives on the Southern side of the Dominican Republic consisting of two Caribbean wreck dives and one night dive.
As first dives we will do two-tank starting with the “Saint George” wreck, undoubtedly one of the best dives in the country, for lovers of undersea adventure, followed by the “Atlantic Princess” a second wreck. Our guides will show you all their mysteries and amazing marine life.
As a third dive, a night dive on the reefs of la Romana that, if magnificent during the day, at night are even more so, allowing us to discover a fauna in full activity. The night allows us to discover a completely different world to the one we visit during daytime, with a rich variety of species that rest during day. We will appreciate better the range of colors of the sea bottom. A unique adventure in an incomparable setting.
The excursion dinner will take place in a restaurant along the calm tropical shoreline, where we will be able to share our dive expectations and experiences of that day or any other that our diver friends want to share. We will see when we feel like going back to Bavaro with the bus. Don’t you agree?
Safari Wreck & Night Diving Excursion: a tour to dream about!
St George Wreck Dive
St. George and Atlantic Princess are probably the best wreck dives in The Dominican Republic. These are the reasons.
St George wreck diving is exciting because:
1. the ship is in one piece;
2. many areas where penetration is allowed;
3. it is an incredible artificial coral reef full of life.
St George is an impressive looking 73 m / 240 ft long cargo ship.
Surrounded by schools of sergeant major fish and blue-chromis, its structure has plenty of camouflaged critters, moray eels, shrimp, crabs, and sea horses.
St George wreck diving maximum depth is 40 meters / 130 feet.
The Atlantic Princess wreck dive is worth it because:
1. it is a pleasant second tank dive,
2. it is an easily accessible wreck,
3. it can accommodate all diving levels.
It is an old passenger liner ship 99 ft / 30 m long. Although this is a wreck dive with no penetration due to the effects of a storm, it is still a delightful experience. Diving there, you will admire the schools of fish and shoals of purple wrasse swirling around it.
There are frequent sightings of lobster, nudibranch, and frogfish as well. Atlantic Princess wreck diving is 12m /39 feet deep.
Night Diving
When night unfolds its cloak of mystery and the sea becomes a stage of life and excitement, brave-hearted divers embark on their night diving adventures.
Every night dive is like a date with the unknown, where shadows become allies and flashes of light reveal the secret dance of marine creatures.
From bioluminescent organisms illuminating the darkness to stealthy predators on the hunt, each encounter tells its own story, forging an intimate connection with the nocturnal underwater life.
- Colors You will be able to understand why underwater photographers love night diving. The artificial light maintains the color spectrum lost during the day. Now, bright hues adorn the underwater world.
- Bioluminescence Do you remember the film “Avatar” and its stunning bioluminescent scenes? During this night dive, you will discover how reality overcomes fiction. Turn on your diving torch and let everything shine in a luminescent thrilling show.
- Different Animals Have you ever seen an octopus hunting? It is a usual spectacle during this night dive. This night diving is your opportunity to see animals that remain hidden during the day.
- Dressel Divers Expertise All our diving tours and night dives are always driven by a concern for our clients’ safety and well-being. PLANNING AND PREPARATION FOR NIGHT DIVING
1. What Is Night Diving?
Tired of seeing the same old fish? During night diving, divers explore the underwater world during the dark hours, opening the doors to a completely new underwater world, full of fascinating creatures that only come alive at night. In this experience, bioluminescence, sounds, and textures surrounding the diver are new, or at least very different from what is experienced in daylight. Night diving is an accessible activity for all levels. With proper preparation and an experienced guide, you can have an unforgettable experience.
2. Are Night Dives Worth It?
Absolutely. Several reasons make night dives an experience worth trying at least once in a lifetime.
It’s different from daytime diving: Night diving offers a completely different perspective of the underwater world. It changes the way we see marine life, making it appear more beautiful, colorful, and mysterious.
Exciting and relaxing: The calmness of the underwater environment at night, combined with the excitement of exploring in the darkness, is a winning combination.
Bioluminescence: One of the highlights of night diving is having the privilege to witness the moment when underwater organisms, such as plankton, emit bright light when disturbed, creating a magical and fascinating effect.
Nightlife: Many marine species are more active at night, and night dives provide the opportunity to observe nocturnal creatures in their natural habitat. Sharks, octopuses, and other predators come out to hunt during the night, and you can see them in action during night dives.
Another light: Dive lights only illuminate a small part of the dive site at once, making divers pay more attention to their surroundings and discover hidden details.
3. Do I Need a Special Certification for Night Diving?
No, although it is recommended.
We advise you to take the Night Diver course to receive proper training that will help you increase your experience in low visibility environments, boost your confidence, and prepare you for safe night diving.
Where can I take a night diving course?
At Dressel Divers, of course. We work with two certifying agencies and you can choose the one you prefer.
SDI offers the “Night / Limited Visibility Diver” course, which familiarizes divers with the procedures, techniques, and potential hazards associated with night diving or limited visibility conditions.
PADI offers a specialization called “Night Diver,” which provides training in night diving techniques, safety procedures, and communication skills.
4. What Equipment Is Necessary for Night Diving?
Diving when night falls requires specific equipment to ensure you stay safe and enhance your experience in the water. Here are some essential items you need for night diving:
Dive light: Having a primary and backup dive light is essential for diving when it gets dark. These lights provide the necessary illumination underwater so you can see your surroundings. It’s important to have lights powerful enough for you to navigate the dive site and find your way back to the entry point.
Backup lights: Carrying backup lights is crucial in case the primary light fails. Some divers even carry multiple backup lights to ensure they have a reliable light source throughout the dive.
Glow sticks or chemical lights: These can be attached to the tank valve or gear to help you maintain visual contact with your dive buddy. They can also serve as signaling devices in case of emergency.
Dive computer or depth gauge: These instruments help you monitor your depth, dive time, and decompression limits during the dive. It’s essential to clearly understand the functions and settings of your dive computer before diving at night.
Dive knife: A dive knife is a versatile tool that can come in handy in various situations, such as cutting through entanglements or lines. It’s recommended to have a dive knife with a secure sheath for easy and safe access.
