The diving season in the Caribbean is fantastic throughout the year. However, for some exclusive experiences, specific activities like bull shark diving or whale shark snorkeling in Mexico are only available in their seasons some months during the year. This adds an extra thrill to your diving adventure, offering unique opportunities at certain times in particular locations.

The average water visibility in the Caribbean is around +25 meters (+75 feet). In Punta Cana, located in the Atlantic Ocean, the average visibility is approximately +20 meters (+66 feet). Puerto Vallarta, situated on the Pacific side, experiences an average winter visibility of around 18 meters (60 feet) and approximately 40 meters (130 feet) in summer. Naturally, water visibility is subject to the conditions of the sea.

The prerequisites vary based on the type of experience you’re seeking:

  • For beginners taking a diving course, being over 10 years old and in good health is sufficient.
  • For regular dives or joining an excursion, aside from the above, certification as a diver is necessary. Please note, there are excursions like Cozumel, Saona, or Catalina, where participation is possible through Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) or dives from certain courses.
  • For specialized dives such as deep diving, night diving, cenote diving, or bull shark diving, the requirements include:
    • Minimum age of 12 years.
    • Good health.
    • Certification as a diver.
    • Completion of a regular dive for safety purposes.
    • For bull shark diving, a minimum of 20 logged dives also is necessary.
    • We recommend a Pool Check if your last dive was within 6 months to 2 years. If it’s been more than 2 years, a Scuba Review is highly recommended.
    • Please note that a Scuba Review is mandatory for all divers who haven’t dived in the last 36 months.

Having good health is a prerequisite for scuba diving, which is why you’ll need to complete a medical statement or provide a medical certificate affirming your fitness to dive.

No, certification is not necessary to dive with us. You can start diving by enrolling in any of our diving courses, which can lead to certifications, or by taking a beginner’s diving course if you’re at least 10 years old and in good health!

The minimum age for scuba diving is 10 years old. At this age, kids are eligible to complete the Discover Scuba Diver Program or Junior Open Water Diver Course. However, there’s also the Bubblemaker program available for children aged 8 and above.

At all of our bases, Dressel Divers offers many different dive sites that are 10-15 minutes away by boat, except in Majorca, where diving is done from the shore.

Dressel Divers has been practicing boat diving from 1993. Every Dressel Divers boat is specifically built and designed for diving by the company’s founder and CEO, Javier Ibran. All Dressel Divers dive boats, ranging from small ones that can accommodate 2 groups of 8 divers to large trimarans, are highly stable to minimize seasickness and are well-regarded for their exceptional details by divers. Our dive boats feature comfortable dive doors, efficient tank storage systems, and ample space for divers, ensuring maximum enjoyment and safety.

Most boats owned by Dressel Divers are equipped with toilets for customers’ convenience. However, on certain occasions, we may utilize shallower draft vessels or rented boats where the availability of a toilet cannot be guaranteed. Nevertheless, for local diving trips, all Dressel Divers boats depart from the base dock, and the journeys typically last no longer than 15 minutes, minimizing the necessity for bathroom use. For longer boat excursions, bathrooms are available on all vessels.

There are mixed excursions where both, divers and non-divers, can enjoy together. Please inquire about them from our agents. However, in the diving-only excursions, relatives and friends should wait on land due to limited spaces on diving boats.

Dressel Divers has a large fleet of boats of various sizes that are used according to organizational needs. You can learn more about Dressel Divers’ diving boats and their design in this article. The Do’s and Don’ts on A Dive Boat or consult our agents to find out more.

  • Collect any possible waste or garbage encountered during dives.
  • Assist animals in distress caused by human activities.
  • Maintain a safe distance from animals to prevent unnecessary stress or confinement.

Therefore, a wetsuit with a thickness of 3mm is sufficient to keep your body comfortable. Additionally, we recommend wearing 5mm wetsuits for cenote scuba diving.

A standard dive with Dressel Divers includes a tank, weight belt, weights, dive boat, and a dive guide. All dives are guided. If you prefer to travel light, you have the option to rent dive gear. We offer two rental options:

  • Individual Gear Rental: You can rent specific items separately (wetsuit, full regulator set including submersible pressure gauge, octopus, and low-pressure inflator, mask, fins, or BCD).

You can take your own videos and photographs, or you can hire the services of our on-site cameramen. Please note that according to international safety regulations, diving students are not authorized to use their cameras during dives.

Depends on the date of the dives. We only keep records of dives conducted by certified divers as required by the law of each of the countries where we operate, so we do not maintain records of previous dives.

Certainly! Booking and payment are required in advance to secure the 20% offer. Unfortunately, without prior reservation and payment, it isn’t feasible to book excursions in advance. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please contact us filling out the contact form at contact

Our course completion rate is notably high, making such a situation unlikely. However, in the unlikely event that this occurs, you would have the option to exchange the value of the unused parts of the course for another service we provide.

When obtaining your recreational diving certification with Dressel Divers, we primarily certify through SDI. However, PADI certification is available upon request. Please note that PADI certifications are subject to higher prices due to administration fees.

You can obtain both certifications at all Dressel Divers bases in any of the four countries where we are present.

For those without any diving background, you have the option to pursue certification as an Open Water diver (the most commonly chosen course). This certification is lifelong and enables you to dive independently with your chosen diving partner. Alternatively, you can opt for the Scuba Diver course, which grants certification allowing dives under the supervision of a Divemaster or higher-level professional diver. It’s important to note that this certification permits diving to a shallower depth. There is a third option, but you won’t receive a certification. It is the Discover Scuba Diver course. It teaches you the fundamentals of diving and allows you to experience a shallow dive under the guidance of your instructor.

Luminous Lagoon FAQs

The Enchanted Luminous Lagoon of Falmouth is home to microscopic organisms that radiate with every graceful motion. This captivating phenomenon is found in only four locations across the globe, yet it finds its most spectacular expression in Jamaica. In this magical water, everything that stirs and sways is adorned with a luminous glow, turning the lagoon into a mesmerizing spectacle of light.

This natural phenomenon turns sea water into an electric neon blue, as it washes up on beach. It happens due to a chemical reaction called “bioluminescence”, which is the production and emission of light by a living organism. It usually occurs when a micro-organism in sea water is disturbed by oxygen.
